Co-curricular activities

Importance is given to co-curricular activities along with academic studies. Cultural competitions are arranged periodically in singing, dancing, acting, speech, drawing, painting etc. Religious and National festivals are celebrated with cultural programmes. Special coaching is given in music, dance and drawing under the guidance of qualified teachers.

Audio cassettes

Students have released audio cassettes of devotional and patriotic songs under the guidance of Mrs. Neema Oza, music teacher. “Kids’ Own Melodies”, collection of Nursery Rhymes is very popular in our schools.

“Kids’ Own Melodies”

A book and audio CD – “Kids’ Own Melodies” was released in December 2005. It is a collection of Nursery Rhymes based on Indian Culture and Values because most of the present day nursery rhymes are based on Western Culture. Lyrics by Fr. Thomas Kolamkuzhiyil CMI, Music by Mr. Neema Oza and sung by students of St. Mary’s School, Rajkot.

Training programme

Training and updating programmes are arranged for staff and students. Selected staff are sent out for training.

Guidance and Counselling

Individual and group counseling is given to students. Carrier guidance by experts is given to Higher Secondary students.

Sports and Games

‘A Sound mind in a Sound body.’ To achieve that goal sports and games are given due importance under the able leadership of qualified P.T. teachers. There are very good playgrounds for Football, Basketball, Volleyball and Tennis.

St. Mary’s Sports Academy

Special coaching is given in Lawn tennis, Skating, Football and Basketball by experienced coaches. Skating is a speciality of st. Mary’s School. Many students from Rajkot make use of the facilities. Tournaments are conducted periodically at District and State level.

M.S.W.

Marian Service Wing (MSW) is an organization of the students of St. Mary’s School, Rajkot for social work. The prime aim of MSW is to create social awareness in the minds of the students and prepare themselves to be of help to the less fortunate around them. They have the programme of ‘Sponsoring a child’. Poor children are helped by study materials and dress at a cost of Rs. 800 per annum. They collect dress, books and money and distribute to the needy. They visit old age homes and slums – ‘Service to man is service to God’.

Newsletter and Website

Newsletter called ‘Underline’ is published periodically, which is a link between the school and parents. Students are encouraged for writing. School website www.stmaryrajkot.org gives details of the school activities.

Computer lab

Primary and Secondary have separate well furnished Computer labs and qualified Computer teachers. Computer education has got great importance in the era of Information Technology. Students are open to vast ocean of knowledge via Internet.

Audio-Visual room

There is a well-furnished audio-visual room with Multimedia Projector. Students are shown various educational CDs and DVDs.

Educational tour

Picnics and Tours are arranged classwise and in larger groups for relaxation and education.

Eco-club

Eco-club is formed to create awareness of Ecology, environmental protection and the adverse effects of pollution and deforestation.

Library

There is a well-furnished Library with so many books and periodicals. Library period is allotted to students to inculcate the habit of reading. CDs and Internet will be made available in the library.

Laboratories

There are well equipped Laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Future Scientists are trained here.

Result in Board exams

The school gets very good result in SSC and HSC Board exams : 98 to 100% every year. In 2006, Ms. Nidhi Shingala got 9th rank in HSC (Com.) and in 2007 Master Vadalia Kishan got 5th rank in SSC in State. Earlier in 1983, Ketan Thakkar got 1st Rank in HSC (Science). Now he is a well-known Orthopaedician in Rajkot.

Parents’ meeting

Parents’ meetings are called periodically to have a coordination between school, teachers and parents. Parents make their valuable suggestions and observations for the betterment of studies and discipline.

Alumni Association

St. Mary’s Ex-students (Alumni) Association is officially formed in the Golden Jubilee year. Students can register their names online Click Here Different meetings were arranged in the Golden Jubilee year. They are very much interested and excited to be associated with their ‘Alma mater’ – bountiful mother. Regular yearly meetings are planned.

Mr. Rajiv Mody (1974 batch)

He is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd., Bangalore. It is a well-reputed software company.

Mr. Pradeep Udhas (1973 batch)

He is Partner-in-charge of the Technology Advisory Services. He is the Global Head of Sourcing Advisory of KMPG, India and Head Markets. He is a well-known international figure in Technology and Software Industry.
